Hydrogen is Abundant

NGC 604, a giant region of ionized hydrogen in the Triangulum Galaxy. (From Wikipedia).
  • Water encompasses two thirds of our planet. Hydrogen can be obtained by splitting water.
  • Our universe is 90% hydrogen, if you count by atoms. If you count mass, 75% of the universe is hydrogen.
  • It's among the most abundant elements on Earth. It does take some work to get usable free hydrogen, but the raw materials are everywhere. Water, the most abundant compound on Earth, is a source of hydrogen.
  • Many reactions produce hydrogen, because of it's special place on the periodic table (number one!). There is a growing list of clean technologies for hydrogen production.
  • A mature and growing hydrogen industry already exists — ironically, it was developed by big oil, who have thousands of miles of hydrogen pipeline in place.
